Why or why not? • Why does this ‘controversy’ matter, if at all? • Should other racial ethnic groups care about this? • Do you think these people truly represent the Italian-Americans? (think of what represent means) • What does this suggest about the power of language as a form of discrimination? • Try to explain the disparity in definitions for the term. Would you feel comfortable using it in public to describe someone else?
