  1. 12 October, 1492 Dear Family, We finally found land and it’s great! I feel good now since now I know that I was working so hard for something. The island is called Guanahani, but we claimed it as our own island and called it San Salvador. On the island, we met the Tainos. They didn’t have much of anything, so we traded red caps, and they traded us cotton and glass beads. Anyway, it was a long trip . We traveled over 2000 miles on the Nina, the Pinta, and the Santa Maria.The captain of the Pinta is Martin Pinzon, the captain of the Nina ssVicente Pinzon, and the captain of the Santa Maria is Christopher Columbus.
