  2. Birth • Doris Miller was born on October 12, 1919.

  3. Job • When World War 2 was in action, Doris was a cook on one of the Navy’s ships.

  4. War • On December 7th, 1941, Japan attacked us on Pearl Harbor. They were bombing our ships and killing innocent people. • On Doris’s Ship, he heard banging on the upper deck of the ship. He went up to see what was going on.

  5. A Hero • When Doris got to the Top Deck of the ship he was on, and he found the Turret man laying there dead, and no one else was around. He decided to run up to the Turret Launcher and started shooting. Even though he wasn’t trained, it is said he shot down at least two planes.

  6. Awards • Doris Miller was awarded the Navy Cross, and the Purple Heart.

  7. Death • Doris Miller died on the 24th of November, 1943. He was on the Liscome Bay, and it was shot by a Japanese Submarine.
