The primary responsibility of the Nephrologist is to treat the disorders of the kidney but they do not perform any surgeries related to kidney whereas urologist specializes in treating disorders related to urinary tract and even perform surgeries if required. The former treats kidney disorders such as acid-base issues, electrolyte disorders, kidney stone, hypertension, end stage renal disease etc. They perform the procedures such as kidney biopsies, placing dialysis catheters, hemo dialysis catheters and peritoneal dialysis catheters. The latter focuses on urinary tract including kidney, adrenal glands, ureters, urinary bladder and urethra.
