Project Objectives and Partners Papua New Guinea Objective To improve the representation of forests in PNG’s PA system, reduce carbon emissions from forests and reduce land degradation Partners Department of Environment and Conservation Fiji Objective To establish and formalise a comprehensive and representative system of PAs Partners Ministry for Lands, Mineral Resources and Environment, plus other government agencies, NGOs and the private-sector (as appropriate)

Project Objectives and Partners Samoa Objective To promote SFM and reduce forest degradation and fragmentation as a result of agriculture Partners Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment Vanuatu Objective To expand the system of PAs and strengthen local capacity for conservation management and sustainable use of biodiversity Partners Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources Niue Objective To expand and consolidate the system of PAs and build capacity for SFM Partners Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries

Current Status and Next Steps Papua New Guinea Draft PIF is prepared, but needs further work to check compliance with GEF Strategic Objectives (especially climate change) and possible partnerships with others Others Draft PIFs are prepared for all four countries and need final checking with countries and then endorsement. Co-financing needs to be clarified.
