Fun Facts • About 10% of the adult population is left-handed. • More males are left-handed than females. • The chances of two right-handed parents conceiving a left-handed child is only 2%, while the chances of two left-handed parents to produce a “lefty” is 50%. • When twins are born, they is a high tendency for one of them to be left-handed.

Geschwind Theory • Theorized by Norman Geschwind. • Testosterone in utero inhibits the growth of the brain in the posterior area of the the left hemisphere, which leads to increase development of the right hemisphere. • Also suggest why there are more left-handed men than there are women.
LRRMT1 • A recently discovered gene responsible for left-handed individuals. • Scientists looking into families with dyslexia were trying to find a link between dyslexia and hand preference and noticed that people with a certain chromosomes and a correlation with their hand preferences. • LRRMT1 has also been linked with schizophrenia.
Vanishing Twin Theory • The theory where individuals are born as twins at first producing mirror images and the “left-hemisphere” child dies during pregnancy and snuffs off leaving only the remnant of the “right-hemisphere” child.
