  2. Survey Overview • Purpose- to get sense of direction participants want for planning effort • Survey provided at 3/24/2005 meeting • Survey sent to listserve for a second chance to complete • 10 people participated

  3. Which elements are appropriate for the plan? • Stream and wetland restoration projects and best management practices • Implementing or examining local policy changes • Research projects • Public educational programs

  4. Results-What elements are appropriate for the plan?

  5. How can the watershed plan help your goals? • Public education • Help meet 30% N reduction • Framework/background for decisions to improve water quality • Preservation of land, projects to slow impacts from developing rural area • Clean water • Help with drainage maintenance • Identify projects in urban areas

  6. What is a Successful Outcome of Planning Effort? • Implement demonstration projects • Doable plan that all parties can support • Projects to improve water quality & aesthetics of area • Municipal participation in preserving aquatic resources • Improve water quality • Education

  7. What must happen to make it worth your time to help implement the plan? • Meet mitigation needs • Assist with public education and local buy-in for projects • Help with Phase 2 permit • SWCD Board allows staff time • Help with Tar-Pam rules (including retrofits) • Work with landowners & groups, show benefit to landowners • Ability to purchase easements or land for projects ($$) • A plan that could address issues and requirements of municipality

In summary, we heard you say you could use assistance with… • Meeting mandated water quality goals • Stormwater Phase 2 requirements • Tar-Pam Rules • Education, particularly regarding benefits to landowners • Identifying projects and successfully getting them in the ground (restoration, stormwater retrofit, preservation)

Watershed Planning Suggested Next Steps… • Agricultural Subcommittee to oversee demonstration project in rural area • Suggestion for now- fall • Project team present overview of existing policies/programs to you • Facilitated discussion of perceived adequacy of these in meeting watershed goals • Develop recommendations to address any identified shortfalls • Develop action plan for implementation
