  2. Route of transmission • Dengue virus is transmitted to human by mosquitoes, especially Aedes aegypti埃及伊蚊 and Aedes albopictu白紋伊蚊. Transmission By Vectors

  4. Route of transmission • This is a day-biting species日間叮人 with increased biting activities for 2 hours after sunrise and several hours before sunset. • Patients are usually infective for mosquitoes from shortly before to the end of the febrile period 剛發燒前至退燒期 , an average of about 6-7 days. It cannot be directly transmitted from person to person.

  6. General Symptoms • Dengue fever is an acute急性mosquito-borne infection caused by the dengue viruses • The dengue viruses encompass four different serotypes血清型, each of which can lead to dengue fever and dengue haemorrhagic fever登革出血熱

  7. General Symptoms • Dengue fever -sudden onset of high fever for 3-5days -severe headache -pain behind the eyes後眼窩痛 -muscle and joint pains -anorexia

  8. General Symptoms • Dengue fever -nausea噁心 -diarrhea腹瀉 -vomiting嘔吐 -rash出疹(bright red rash appears first on the lower limbs and the chest or even the whole body) -may be extremely tired,depressed

  10. General Symptoms • Dengue fever -the incubation is 3-14 day -if the situation is worsen,the patients would bleed出血 ,shock休克 and even cause death Dealth \0/ My goodness!!

  11. General Symptoms -it is easier to get Dengue fever if you go to the Latin America and Southeast Asian countries -spreads mainly in the rainy season and at the end of the rainy season

General Treatments in HK • There is no specific treatment for dengue fever or dengue haemorrhagic fever • seek medical assistance immediately, especially with bleeding signs • High fever should be treated by sponging溫水抹身 and the appropriate use of paracetamol退燒藥 • Do not take aspirin because they can lead to bleeding and cause stomach irritation

Preventive measures • Personal protection measures ~Wear long-sleeved shirts and trousers    ~Avoid staying in scrubby多樹的 areas ~Use mosquito screens or nets when the room is not air-conditioned~Use insect repellents驅蚊劑 containing DEET 避蚊胺 on exposed skin ~If travelling in endemic rural areas, carry a portable bed-net and apply permethrin氯菊酯噴 on it as well as to clothes.

Mosquito control (larval control and adult mosquito control) ~Periodic draining or removal of artificial containers to reduce the breeding grounds for mosquitos ~Keep the water stores clean and closed. ~Use of larvicides殺幼蟲劑 or mosquito larvae-eating fish in waters that cannot be drained. ~Fill tree holes with sand or cement水泥 and plug the tops of bamboo fences.

  16. Preventive measures • Mosquito control (larval control and adult mosquito control) ~Using insect repellent, mosquito traps or mosquito nets to prevent mosquito bites TO AVOID GETTING DENGUE YOU MUST AVOID BEING BITTEN!!!!
