NCI Metadata Governance • Set of processes that ensures that important metadata assets are formally managed throughout an enterprise.  • Ensures that data can be trusted and that people can be made accountable for any adverse event that happens because of low data quality. • Encourages data consistency across multiple enterprise resources. A basic governance model includes a oversight organization, a defined set of procedures, and a plan to execute those procedures.

  3. Governance Development Process • Define a list of use cases focusing on the maintenance of Common Data Element (CDE) standards. • Define a standard list of: • Roles and responsibilities • Definitions of terms • Acronyms • Success measures • Identify the governing process for each scenario. • Leverage existing caDSR Best Practices and Business Rules, such as Versioning Rules. • Document procedures around the identified use cases. • Develop a governance plan that will focus on executing the identified procedures.

Potential Use Cases for CDE Maintenance • Changing a category. • Modifying CDE short name. • Adding a Permissible Value. • Removing a Permissible Value. • Changing a Value Domain name. • Adding a Value Domain name. • Changing a Value Meaning definition. • Adding a Value Meaning definition. • Modifying Value Domain Name qualifiers. • Modifying Value Domain primary Representation Term.

  6. Next Steps • Finalize list of CDE maintenance use cases. • Add content to the Governance Wiki. • Begin Content Meeting presentations related to how governanceis being applied. • Develop first set of procedures for review.
