New Proposed Social Science Standards 4 Major Dimensions of Each Discipline: • 1 – Developing questions and planning inquiry • 2 – Applying disciplinary concepts and tools • 3 – Evaluating sources and evidence • 4 – Communicating conclusions and taking informed action How do these align with the idea that all teachers and content areas teach writing and have students communicate ideas/arguments through writing?
Middle School Complexity Bands • Standards banded by complexity rather than grade levels • Differentiation (p.10-11) • Peruse some of the Middle School Standards within the four disciplines. Notice the varying level of verbs used within the standards. • By the end of 8th grade, students should have practiced and experienced all three levels.
