This PPT aims to equip cPanel users with extremely useful information with regard to the most frequently encountered cPanel terms. The terms in this PPT are explained in brief but comprehensively.

Important Terms that are Encountered Frequently by cPanel Users
Table of Contents • EasyApache (EA) • EDGE • Elliptic Curve Digital Signature Algorithm (ECDSA) • Email Deliverability • End of Life (EOL) • Environment Variables • Error Pages • Exim • EXPERIMENTAL • Extended Fourth Filesystem (ext4) • Extended HELO (EHLO) • Extended SMTP (ESMTP) • Extended Validation (EV) Certificate • External Authentication • File Transfer Protocol (FTP) • Filesystem • Filter • Firewall • Firewalld • Forceful Reboot • Forwarder • Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN)
Easy Apache (EA) • It is a part of cPanel & WHM. It is meant to install, modify and validate the Apache web server, PHP and other components of a user.
EDGE • It is one of the release tiers of cPanel & WHM. Rudimentary testing has taken place for versions that are on this tier. Hence, such versions would be modified further. This tier is not recommended for production servers.

Elliptic Curve Digital Signature Algorithm (ECDSA) • It is a variant of the Digital Signature Algorithm. Elliptic-curve cryptography (ECC) is used by it. Equivalent security is provided by ECDSA to RSA keys, using smaller key sizes. • ECDSA provides equivalent security to RSA keys that are using smaller key sizes. Hence, smaller certificates are generated by ECDSA keys. The result is faster connections and website loading times, owing to smaller certificates.
Email Deliverability • It refers to the ability of a system to deliver email to recipients. It can frequently gauge the success of email campaigns. It also aids in identifying mail-related DNS problems. A user can view email deliverability information in the “Email Deliverability” interface in cPanel, by clicking on cPanel -> Home -> Email -> Email Deliverability. • In the context of Internet, it is imperative to mention websites. The files of websites are stored on the servers that are provided by web hosting companies. The terms, such as, the “Best Windows Hosting Company” or “Cloud Hosting Company in India” or even “Website Hosting Companies in India” refer to web hosting companies.
End of Life (EOL) • It is that stage with regard to the lifecycle of a software, where security updates or bug fixes are no longer provided by the author.
Environment Variables • These are those values that are placed within specific files on the server by advanced administrators. It is done to change the behavior of PHP, Apache and other systems.
Error Pages • These are the pages that display warning messages in the scenario where any visitor has problem while trying to access a user’s site. These pages can be customized in the “Error Pages” interface in cPanel, by clicking on cPanel -> Home -> Advanced -> Error Pages.
Exim • It is a free mail transfer agent software which can be configured easily. It is highly flexible. It can be modified in the “Exim Configuration Manager” interface in WHM, by clicking on WHM -> Home -> Service Configuration -> Exim Configuration Manager.
EXPERIMENTAL • It refers to an unstable feature or setting which might cause unintended and unwelcome consequences. Extreme caution should be exercised if an EXPERIMENTAL feature or setting is enabled by a user. • These features might not work with other settings or features and are not effective controls with regard to security.
Extended Fourth Filesystem (ext4) • It is a filesystem that is journaled and is often used by Linux servers. All cPanel & WHM installations require ext4. • ext3 filesystem is the predecessor of ext4.
Extended HELO (EHLO) • It is an Extended Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (ESMTP) command. It is sent by an email server or client. Its purpose is to identify the email server or client when it establishes a connection with another email server. The process of sending an email is initiated by this command, which is followed by the server sending its domain name. The receiving server or client is notified by the esmtp command that ESMTP extensions are supported by the sending server.
Extended SMTP (ESMTP) • It is an extension of the original SMTP’s (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) protocols. An EHLO request is sent by ESMTP to an email server or client. This is done to identify the server’s supported protocol. A list of the server’s available ESMTP commands are returned by it.
Extended Validation (EV) Certificate • It refers to a digital certificate for SSL/TLS verification. A comprehensive identity validation process is used by the certificate authority (CA) to verify the control of the applicant over the DNS domain. HTTPs are enabled by these certificates on the web browser address bar of a user. These state the name of the verified owner. The most secure level of domain validation is offered by these certificates. These certificates can be purchased and installed in SSL/TLS Wizard interface in cPanel, by clicking on cPanel -> Home -> Security -> SSL/TLS Wizard.
External Authentication • With the aid of this feature, system administrators are able to grant users access to their cPanel accounts that are with an external account provider. External Authentication modules can be used by third-party developers. This authentication can be done through OpenID Connect-compliant identity providers. • External Authentication can be configured in the “Manage External Authentications” interface in WHM, by clicking on WHM -> Home -> Security Center -> Manage External Authentication.
File Transfer Protocol (FTP) • It is that method which is used to transfer files from one computer to another. An FTP server that can be configured by website owners is included in cPanel & WHM. • The user needs to install an FTP client on the local computer. This will ensure that files are send to and received from the FTP server. An FTP server can be selected in the “FTP Server Selection” interface in WHM, by clicking on WHM -> Home -> Service Configuration -> FTP Server Selection. It can be configured in the “FTP Server Configuration” interface in WHM, by clicking on WHM -> Home -> Service Configuration -> FTP Server Configuration. • A user can create and manage FTP accounts in the “FTP Accounts” interface in cPanel, by clicking on cPanel -> Home -> Files -> FTP Accounts. • To digress, websites are hosted on the servers that are provided by web hosting companies. These companies are often known as the “Best Windows Hosting Company” or as “Cloud Hosting Company in India” or even as “Website Hosting Companies in India”.
Filesystem • It is the system that is used by the operating system in order to manage files and directories. If multiple partitions are used by a user’s server, then a different filesystem might be used by each of those partitions.
Filter • It is that tool in cPanel which processes email based on the user’s preferences. WHM users can set up many types of filters. • A user can apply filters to a domain’s main email account by using the “Global Email Filters” interface by clicking on cPanel -> Home -> Email -> Global Email Filters. • Filters can be customized for individual accounts by using the Email Filters interface. The path for achieving that is, cPanel -> Home -> Email -> Email Filters.
Firewall • It refers to a security application that is meant to protect servers from attacks initiated by hackers.
Firewalld • It is a firewall tool that is meant for Linux operating system. Network and firewall zones are managed dynamically by it. Additionally, it defines trust levels.
Forceful Reboot • It refers to one of the two methods that can be used by a user to restart his/her server. The server is forced to restart by this method, irrespective of the errors that are encountered by it. • Its use is recommended only in those situations where a graceful reboot doesn’t work. That is because it can cause data loss. Both, forceful and graceful reboots can be performed in the WHM interface.
Forwarder • It is a tool that enables a user to forward a copy of every email message that has been received by him, to some other address. Even if a forwarder is present, the user will still continue to receive mail at the original recipient address. • In the scenario where a forwarder is created by the user prior to the creation of the original address, the messages will be forwarded by the system to the end address and not to the original address as it is not in existence. Forwarders can be created and managed in the “Forwarders” interface in cPanel, by clicking on cPanel -> Home -> Email -> Forwarders.
Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN) • It refers to that name which defines the location of a domain in a unique way. It must be written in lowercase letters.
