Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad was established on 11th December 1961 by a group of highly motivated intellectuals led by the eminent physicist and space scientist, Dr. Vikram Sarabhai and the famous businessman, Mr. Kasturbhai Lalbhai. They also received support from the former Chief Minister of Gujarat, Dr. Jivraj Mehta. The founding Director of the Institute was Ravi John Matthai. IIM, Ahmedabad was established with the combined support of the local industrialists and businessmen, central and state governments, the Harvard Business School and the Ford Foundation<br>
