  1. Why Have You Chosen The Genre Post Apocalyptic? We feel that with the genre post apocalyptic there is a wider range of possibility's with what we could do in terms of location, characters, plot and costume. This type of movie relates more to our interests and we all know a bit about the genre giving us a head start in the research.

  2. What are post apocalyptic films? It’s a sub genre of science fiction, labelled as ‘The Doomsday Films’. Always set in the mist of a disaster, for example a nuclear war or pelage. The genre of post apocalyptic fiction became more popular after World War II, when the possibility of global extermination by nuclear weapons entered the public consciousness. Post apocalyptic fiction goes right back to ancient times such as the story of Noah's ark written in the bible. God sees the wickedness of man and is grieved by his creation, resolving to send a great flood to cleanse the Earth. In more modern literature and film themes like a virus pandemic (Zombie apocalypse), war and more recently the global warming threat are becoming increasingly popular, especially since the Mayan calendar predicts the end of the world next year on the 21st December 2012. films such as 2012 and the day after tomorrow only increase peoples fear of what some believe to be inevitable.

  3. Typical Post apocalyptic themes We noticed repetitive themes throughout the movies we watched, such as hybrid genres creeping in like horror and thriller. Typical features also include things like characters and location. Characters There is nearly always an innocence character such as a child, good doer, person with disability, a pregnant woman or even a pet with whom we sympathise. LikeI mentioned this is so we sympathise with the characters as these characters in particular are most venerable. Another typical character is the one who has given up hope, typically adopting the ‘what's left to fight for? There's no point in bothering’ kind of attitude. For example Robert in I Am Legend and Theo from children of men. Also I feel that the main character is nearly always the one to give sacrifice themselves to save another in the end of most post apocalyptic movies for example Robert (IAL) and Theo (COM).

  4. Locations Locations have similarities to what would be expected in a horror or thriller movie e.g, Dark and creepy. However there are features that would give away a Post apocalyptic movie and most of these are obviously noticeable Destroyed buildings Possibly no electricity • Out of place wild animals • moss/plant growth on/around Buildings • Flooding • Fire/explosions. • (if a zombie/virus movie) the infected walking through streets possibly. Broken roads Crashed vehicles Deserted Streets

  5. Post Apocalyptic Movie Timeline Nineteen Eighty-Four (Michael Radford,1984) La Jeffe (Chris Marker, 1962) Logan's Run (Michael Anderson, 1971) The Day of the Triffids (Steve Sekely, 1961) Dawn of the Dead (George A. Romero,1978) Planet of the apes (Franklin J. Schaffner, 1968)

  6. I am legend (Francis Lawrence, 2007) 2012 (Roland Emmerich, 2009) The Terminator (James Cameron, 1984) The Day After Tomorrow (Roland Emmerich,2004) 28 days later (Danny Boyle, 2002) The Road (John Hillcoat, 2009) Children Of Men (Alfonso Cuarón,2006)

  7. Dawn of the Dead (George A. Romero,1978) Quick summary - Following an ever-growing epidemic of zombies that have risen from the dead, two Philadelphia SWAT team members, a traffic reporter, and his television-executive girlfriend seek refuge in a secluded shopping mall. The idea of seclusion is the main post apocalyptic Feature my groups trailer relies heavily on, reason being because we are obviously only college students and don’t have a Hollywood budget to creative explosions and block off streets to give a deserted look so we stuck with the small scale idea of seclusion and isolation. We have also used the deadly incurable virus we see in so many zombie movies.

  8. Children Of Men (Alfonso Cuarón,2006) Quick Summary- In 2027, in a chaotic world in which humans can no longer procreate, a former activist agrees to help transport a miraculously pregnant woman to a sanctuary at sea, where her child's birth may help scientists save the future of humankind. The ideas me and group used from this was innocence, I like how when we watched it the fact a pregnant woman's life could have been in danger made us sympathize with her. This is one of the reasons we will use diary entry's read by a young boy because this will make the audience feel sorry for the isolated child.

  9. I am legend (Francis Lawrence, 2007) Quick Summary- Years after a plague kills most of humanity and transforms the rest into monsters, the sole survivor in New York City struggles valiantly to find a cure. This film did influence my groups idea quite a lot. The innocence of the dog, the virus and finally the main character being in a situation where there stuck on their own; you can quite obviously tell this movie is where most of our ideas sprung from.
