Timetabled lecture capture – Getting involved • In the first instance contact your departmental administratorwith your request • Your request will then ultimately be put to Timetabling for scheduling • Once timetabled the ELDT will get back to you to confirm details for publishing your captures • Webpage supporting Timetabled capture: • https://www.york.ac.uk/staff/teaching/key-areas/digitalrecordingoflectures/timetabledlectures/ • Guide to information needed: • https://vle.york.ac.uk/bbcswebdav/xid-4061045_4
Personal capture – What it is/does • Personal Capture is an application you install on your computer locally • Note that you can’t easily install it on a lectern PC and may need your DCO to help you with a supported computer • It records your computer screen and audio (if you have a microphone attached). It can also record you physically if a camera/web-camera is attached • It is manually engaged/disengaged by you and is targeted at recording while sat at your desk
Personal capture – Publishing and getting • Personal Capture allows publish in exactly the same way as Timetabled capture • You specify where to publish to after you have captured • You can also (destructively) edit from the app • Support webpage: • https://www.york.ac.uk/staff/teaching/key-areas/digitalrecordingoflectures/personalcapture/ • Document of information needed (by the ELDT) forrequesting a Personal Capture license: • https://vle.york.ac.uk/bbcswebdav/xid-4060282_4 • Demonstration of Personal Capture
Benefits of personal capture • Staff • Screen, audio and webcam (*optional) • No wait for production and publishing • Increased personalisation of online content • Visual explanation of threshold concepts • Simple production, editing and publication • Students • Control playback • Suit different learning styles • Personalise DL
How is personal capture being used? • Languages and Linguistics, Comp Sci, Education, CELT, Chemistry, HYMS, Biology • Ad hoc or reusable learning objects • Distance learning • Scene setting (start of course, week etc.) • Feedback / exemplars • “How to” reference videos • Lecture supplements (issues arising) • The “flipped” classroom • Prepare for face to face • Built in interactivity
Considerations for creating personal captures • Personal capture or screencasting? • How will they fit with F2f / other resources and activities? • Consider potential for reuse • Production values (“good enough”) • Will students know what to do with them? Overview and ideas: http://goo.gl/JU5Xs
