  1. Mixed Reality Robotics The Pleo & Irina Tyshkevich

  2. The Plan • Teach students using Computer Science • Use Computer Science to teach students Points of consideration: • Student’s reactions to the robot • Limitations of the robot

  3. Easiest Thing (What Already Works) • Basic interaction abilities that The Pleo already has • The Pleo Development Kit • The Georgia Tech research online • MySkit GUI interface • Children are pretty easily intrigued by the robot

  4. The Coolest Thing (Secret Weapon) Interaction with the students Understanding the robot’s reactions Pretty durable, kid friendly Autonomous functionality Mirza says, “It’s cute.”

  5. The Hardest Thing (Wishlist) Controlling The Pleo from my computer  Predicting the Pleo’s responses, programming believable movements, increased communications Program a C++ game that the children will enjoy, but not get distracted by

  6. What’s next? • Find a dependable way of connecting to and controlling the Pleo on all computers • Make a list of all of the sensors, and understand the Pleo’s limitations • Become acquainted with programming the Pleo in C++, write simple functions and explore new interactions • Create a game that will incorporate the best of the Pleo’s abilities, that will engage the students and be educational at the same time. Points of Interest? • The children’s interactions with the robot; attachment, respect, relationship, attention span • Will this actually increase the student’s interest in Computer Science? • Will this actually help them learn the academic material?

  7. The End Any Questions?
