What is Turnitin? • An electronic in-box for student assignments • An archive of student authored papers that have been submitted to Turnitin • A program to help instructors evaluate the originality of submitted papers
How Does Turnitin Work? • Turnitin compares the text of each submitted paper against … • All papers that were previously submitted and archived • Many journal articles that are electronically available • Searchable web sources • Turnitin returns an originality report to the instructor highlighting passages that “match” other works. • Turnitin does not pass nor fail students. It simply helps instructors find potential originality problems.
How to access Turnitin at UF • Through E-Learning • This is what I usually use • Each semester, apply for an E-Learning course • Turnaround is usually less that an day, often much less • Through the Turnitin site • Still have to apply through UF, because UF licenses the use of Turnitin

Through the E-Learning site • Switch to Teach Mode • Click on that assignment • Class list appears
Through the Turnitin Site • http://www.turnitin.com • Login … Add a class • Give it a name and enrollment password • Which you will also give your students, as they will have to enroll themselves • I made a class for • Misc Papers I need to check • The assignment here is • Misc paper
