  3. What does it mean to be alive? If you were hiking in a new forest and you found something you’d never seen before, how would you determine if it was alive?

  4. All living things have… • Response to stimuli • Reproduction • Growth • Movement • Metabolism • Made of Cells Write these 6 requirements down

  5. Some vocabulary… Stimuli: an outside influence such as temperature, light, poking, etc. Reproduction: when an organism makes copies of itself Metabolism: taking in food, water, oxygen, etc, then extracting nutrients, and getting rid of waste products

  6. Once Living things… • Do not respond • Do not reproduce • Do not grow • Do not metabolize • Do not move BUT They do show evidence of cells

  7. Non-Living Things…. • Do not move • Do not respond • Do not metabolize • Do not grow • Do not reproduce • Show no evidence of cells
