14-2 Distinction Between Temperature, Heat and Internal Energy • Internal energy is a sum of all of the energy of the molecules in a substance.(also called thermal energy.) • Temperature is a measure of the average kinetic energy of the molecules in a substance. • Heat refers to the transfer of energy
