Heat Conduction What is heat conduction?
Heat conduction is the spontaneous transfer of thermal energy through matter, from a region of higher temperature to a region of lower temperature without visible movement of the medium. hence acts to even out temperature differences.
The thermal energy, in the form of continuous random motion of the particles of the matter, so can be said to move by physical contact between particles. Heat can also be transferred by radiation and/or convection, and often more than one of these processes occur in a particular situation.

This law is also known as Fourier’s law. It states that the time rate of heat transfer through a material is proportional to the negative gradient in the temperature or the area at right angles, to that gradient, through which the heat is flowing.
Metals are good heat conductors because in addition to vibrating atoms to pass on energy, they have many electrons which are free to move about.when these free electrons gain heat, they move around faster and collide more with neighbouring electrons and atoms. They help to pass on the energy more quickly than the vibrating atoms.
What is the use of conduction in our daily lives?
Heat has to be transferred quickly when we are cooking and ironing. These are some of the examples of heat conduction used in our daily lives.
Quiz Qn 1) What is the definition of conduction? Ans: the spontaneous transfer of thermal energy through matter, from a region of higher temperature to a region of lower temperature without visible movement of the medium.
