  3. Respect:*treating someone or something the way you want to be treated* • Holding the door open for someone • Listening to the teacher • Being a good sport • Taking turns • Doing the right thing • Treating everyone like they are important

  4. Responsibility:*being dependable and making good choices* • Doing your chores • Solving conflicts in a win-win way • Asking permission to borrow someone else's things • Turn in things on time • Keep room/desk clean • Help a person when they are hurt

  5. Self-control:* thinking about your words and actions, and then making choices that are right for you and others* • Following the rules • Handling your anger • Don’t talk when the teacher is talking • Doing your homework and chores without being asked • Doing the right thing, when no one is looking

  6. Friendship: a personattachedto another by feelings of affection or personal regard; apersonwhogivesassistance • Sharing • Taking turns • Playing the game they like sometimes • Listening • Helping • Playing together

  7. Tolerance: A fair and understanding attitude toward those who are different from us. • Show respect for all people • Learn from people who are different from you • Look for ways you are the same • Do not use stereotypes

Compassion:*being kind, thoughtful and understanding of the needs and feelings of others* • Including someone who looks lonely • Cheer someone up if they are looking like they’re having a bad day • Making a card for someone who is sick • Inviting a new student to play with you • Treat others the way you want to be treated

  9. Courage:*doing the right thing even when it is difficult* • Stand up to a bully • Saying sorry • Trying something new • Giving a presentation in front of the class

  10. Honesty:*being truthful and sincere* • Tell the truth • Return things that don’t belong to you • Be a good sport and don’t cheat • Not spreading rumors

  11. Cooperation and TeamworkWorking together in a peaceful manner to achieve a goal. • Allow everyone to have a voice • Communicate with each other • Try to use everyone’s ideas • Help your friends clean up a mess • Do some chores at home • Give everyone an equal piece of the work

  12. Perseverance:*working towards a goal and not giving up* • Finishing a book or puzzle • Getting to a new level on a video game • Getting your overhand serve over in volleyball • Finally learning the new piano song • Getting to the top on a rock wall • Never giving up

What are your kids getting each month • Kick off assembly at the beginning of the month—pep rally • Monthly lesson in class with the book of the month • Daily topic for discussion • Possible follow up lessons and activities at the discretion of teachers and building staff • Monthly song • Monthly display in library

  14. Caught with Character Program • Fish are being given out in school when children are caught showing the monthly trait anywhere in school. • Can be given by any adult. • Will be sent home to complete with parent so you are aware they earned it and then put in the bulletin board by main office.

  15. Caught with Character at Home • Home-School connection newsletter will come home each month. • New slips which can be filled out and sent home when you catch them showing the virtue at home. • These are displayed in every classroom. • Remember we are looking for that moment to reward children when they are caught at home. Sending home 2 each month.
