Aims of ReCap To increase the awareness of the Palestinian refugee problem Research the mental health status of Palestinian refugee children Understand the needs & health challenges faced by refugees Understand the link between psychosocial status and health Building human resources by motivating medical students to become involved in NGO’s and organisations working in the field of refugee health

UNRWA Clinics • Primary care • Acute & Chronic • Antenatal • Vaccinations • Shadowing and data collection
Activities at Children’s Centers • Initially part of research • Dropped from research, but continued to plan activities
The Research Project • CBCLs for children aged 6-18 years • Modified to collect from UNRWA clinics
CHALLENGES • Checkpoints & road blocks • Palestinian Permits • Water Cuts • Project Cost
Logistics • When? Early July to August • Where? OPT • How much? Housing and in-country travel is covered. Plane ticket, food, etc., are on your own. No visa for US citizens. • Cultural concerns? Appropriate dress. No alcohol. • Is it safe? Yes… and no. But yes. Well, your mom won’t think so.
