  1. Fingerprint Recognition Security systems have witnessed rapid technological advancements in the past years in response to a higher degree in criminal and fraudulent activities. Security measures like physical controls and CCTVs are no longer efficient enough to safeguard an entity from these detrimental activities. In an age where firm value and profit is the ultimate goal of a corporation, the attention has shifted to the use of biometric fingerprint recognition over conventional security measures. Fingerprint recognition refers to the authentication using an automated method of verifying a match between two human fingerprints. The authentication works by recognizing an algorithm based on the scanned human fingerprint. A fingerprint sensor is used to sense and scan a digital image of the fingerprint pattern. The digital image would then be processed into a biometric template which would then be stored for matching purposes.

  2. The unique feature about this security measure lies within the algorithms that our fingerprints provide. Each individual possesses a different set of fingerprints, and even both your left and right fingers don't have identical prints. Fingerprint recognition provides enhanced levels of security for corporations. Only authorized personnel would have authentication right to access highly restricted areas such as vaults and safehouses etc. Security threats would have to device a method of forging fingerprint algorithms to gain access into such areas, and this might prove to be an impossible chore given the range of algorithm possibilities. Another plus point that fingerprint recognition has over conventional security measures would be the additional security it provides. Conventional security measures such as physical locks and safes have their own distinctive flaws. Locks can be broken easily whereas safes can be opened with precision and skill. Close circuit television (CCTV) can only help keep a watchful eye and monitor ongoing situations, but they provide little assistance to actually overcome a criminal act. Fingerprint scanners on the other hand can lock criminals out should they lack the necessary fingerprint access. Should a criminal try to break it apart, then the lock would be permanently locked in most situations. With every technological wonder comes its own personal flaw. Like any other security system, biometric fingerprint scanners have their own drawbacks to go along with their advantages. Utilizing the latest technology requires a considerable amount of investment, and the same can be said for the biometric scanners required for fingerprint recognition. The implementation of these scanners over conventional security means would incur an entity significant amount of capital, and this is excluding any other necessary miscellaneous costs such as maintenance and also skilled labor personnel to operate and update the database. Therefore a company would always question the viability and feasibility of making such an investment, considering that it would not be possible for it to generate economic benefits for the company. 3. Another issue of concern is within the fingerprint algorithm itself. As mentioned, each fingerprint algorithm is unique and impossible to duplicate. Should any serious injuries or mishaps happen to respective authorized personnel and alter their fingerprints, then the entity would be facing some serious problems. A typical method of countering such issues would be to require scanning of both palms for access and the constant update of the biometric templates within the database.
