  2. I’ve been teaching for 16 years. This is my second year working in the US as a immersion Chinese teacher. I have a 10-year-old daughter who is studying back in China. I love reading, hiking, travelling, handcrafts, and music.

  3. I come from Shenyang, the biggest city located in northeast of China. It’s the birthday place of Qing Dynasty. It’s been a great industrial city for over 80 years. It’s famous for dumplings and rice.

  4. This year, We’ll use cooperative learning groups and strategies. We’ll explore Chinese culture, holidays, food, games, songs, Chinese dancing, calligraphy, paper cutting, geography. We’ll write journals, make Chinese dictionary and story books. We’ll learn Singaporean Chinese language as our textbooks. We’ll have finished at least 30 Chinese story books reading. We’ll review addition and subtraction and learn multiplication, division, fractions, measurement, estimate, elapsed time, volume, mass, area , perimeter and geometry in math. We’ll learn about living and non-living things, gravity, force and motion, heat, light, the relationship between earth and moon, in science. We’ll understand how geography influences community location and development, cultural factors shape a community, the principles of civic responsibility in classroom, community and country in social studies.

Time schedule Monday –Thursday 8:40-9:00 self-starter 9:00-10:00 math 10:00-10:15 recess 10:15-11:20 Chinese/ Science/ Social Studies 11:20-11:25 Clean Up+ switch classes 11:30-12:15 lunch + recess 12:20-12:35 Self Starter 12:35-1:40 math 12:50-1:10 Computer lab 1:40-1:55 recess 1:55-2:40 Music/Art/PE,/Computers/Library. • 2:40-3:20 Chinese /Science/ Social studies 3:20-3:25 Clean Up+ dismissal Our schedule remains flexible so things may change on any given day but this is the usual schedule we will be following.

Friday Schedule: • 8:40-9:00 Self Starter • 9:00-9:30 Review Chinese/ Math/ Science/SS • 9:30-10:00 Friday Quiz • 10:00-10:15 Recess • 10:15-10:40 Center activities 10:40-10:45 Switch Classes • 10:50—11:00 Self Starter • 11:00-11:30 Review Chinese/ Math/ Science/SS • 11:30-12:15 Lunch and Recess • 12:20-12:50Friday Quiz • 12:50-1:20 Center activities • 1:20-1:25 Clean Up+ dismissal

  7. Classroom management I will share the same classroom management as Mrs. Pforts’. Each student will fill in his/her “Behavior and Homework Tracking Calendars” at the end of the day.

  8. When the student can’t finish Self Starter paper or other worksheets, he/she will fill in this “Oh-Oh” chart and finish all the undone paper at home. Please sign it before your child return it.

  9. Rule #1: Follow all directions quickly. Rule #2: Raise your hand for permission to speak or leave your seat. Rule #3: Respect everyone and everything. Rule #4: Make smart choices. Rule #5: Make your dear teachers happy.

  10. Folders go home on Mondays and are due on the following Monday. 2. Students need to turn in homework the following Monday. ( That means they do homework every day.) 3. Homework includes math paper and Chinese writing, reading. Oral Chinese homework online. (I will show the students the website in my blog) 4. Please use the resources in my blog to practice math and Chinese if your child needs more help.

  11. Reward system 1. Individual students can earn “ tickets” for good behavior, being a good teacher’s helper, bringing homework back on time and following the classroom rules. They can use the tickets for prizes treats or privileges. 2. Cooperative learning groups will earn 5 more tickets for each member of the group. 3. Two classes, green and yellow classes will have a periodic math (Mario and Luigi) and Chinese books reading competitions ( Bees and frogs, run home quickly!). The winner class will have a party.

  12. Warning Name on the white board and lose a ticket Lose 10 minutes of recess Notify parents. Go to the office.

  13. Grading and grades The grades given for math, science and social studies are based on the DESK standards as described on our district website. You will find a link to the DESK standard about math in my blog. Chinese grades given is based on UT Dual Immersion standards. Grades are updated weekly, including Friday Quiz, homework, periodic assessment.

  14. What if your child misses school? Please email me or send me a note if it’s possible. Please help your child preview the missing contents we’ve learned at school, especial for math. I will help your child make up the missing part in recess time if you would like. Homework still needs to be turned in when your child comes to school.   15. Every Friday quiz Chinese test: AAPPL or YCT ( not finally decided yet, waiting for more information) Math test of UT State Please cooperate with the teacher and help the students succeed in all the tests!
