  2. Red Scare • The rounding up and deportation of several hundred immigrants of radical political views by the federal government in 1919 and 1920.It was caused by fears of subversion by communists in the United States after the Russian Revolution.

  3. Red Hunt • McCarthy began investigating many American who he though could be communists. • Many people got accused of being communist even if they were not, and would lose their job and be sent to jail

  4. Communism • "a totalitarian system of government in which a single authoritarian party controls state-owned means of production“ • There is no social classes. • There is no private property.

  5. McCarthyism • The time period from 1946 to 1955 • Was named after Senator Joseph McCarthy • McCarthy led a movement to find and prosecute suspected communists • It is defined as “the political practice of publicizing accusations of disloyalty or subversion with insufficient regard to evidence."

  6. Witch Hunt • Searching for those who are accused of Witch Craft • Usually searched with slight or irrelevant evidence

  7. Allegory • The representation of abstract ideas or principles by characters, figures, or events in a narrative

  8. Allusion • The act of making a casual reference to something

  9. Crucible • The actual meaning of crucible is “a container of metal or refractory material employed by heating substances to high temperatures”
