    3. Project overview (cont) Lead school: Horsham College 11 partner schools Total enrolments (Years 9-12) in Wimmera schools: 2000 students Enrolments (Years 9-12) in individual schools: ranging from 36 to 698 students

    5. Provision areas Commercial Cookery Electrotechnology Hairdressing and Beauty Furniture and Cabinet Making Building and Construction (Carpentry and Plumbing) Automotive Agriculture Engineering

Provision sites Horsham College (adjacent to the University of Ballarat (TAFE)): new industry standard facility University of Ballarat (TAFE) - Horsham Campus: upgrade to existing facilities Longerenong College: upgrade to existing facilities Innovative timetabling and delivery options to maximise opportunities for students to participate in these programs: e.g. including the possibility of delivering course material both on-line and via video-conferencing

Project context Strong history of collaborative partnerships Wimmera Southern Mallee VET Cluster established in 1997 Students from partner schools travel to Horsham each Wednesday to access a range of VET options Collaborative, cross-sectoral arrangements provide the “critical mass” of students to enable access to a wider range of VET options than might otherwise be available in individual schools Strong commitment to VET, despite challenges of access (e.g. transport, travel time and cost, distance) Transport model developed through collaborative partnerships, with the Department of Transport, to support access to VET (formerly the “Access Bus Model”; in 2009, a Regular Public Transport service)

Project Context (cont) Alignment with: Regional Provision Planning Imperatives driven by local landscape Regional Initiatives Youth Options Guarantee (commitment to supporting young people to complete Year 12 or equivalent qualifications) Leading Schools Fund initiatives developed to provide remote learning access (e.g. Blended Curriculum project)

Project Development Framework of cross-sectoral collaborative partnerships Support of regional leadership Inclusive working relationships from the outset of dialogue, building on existing goodwill Schools Partners (including Wimmera Southern Mallee LLEN/LCP, Australian Industry Group, RTOs: University of Ballarat (TAFE), WorkCo - Longerenong) commitment sought and gained from all schools and partners to proceed with concept common purpose: commitment to improved outcomes for young people, through enhanced access to and participation in vocational learning programs
