  1. Emergency Plan Student Release

  2. Earthquake Scenario • There is a large earthquake. Your teacher instructs everyone to get under their desks and or to cover their heads to protect themselves from falling debris.

  3. Earthquake damage • Several items come off the wall, 3 ceiling tiles fall and the smart board projector comes unfastened and splatters into broken pieces of glass and plastic. • One student is cut from the broken pieces. • The shaking stops.

  4. There is an announcement to go to the assembly area. Initially your teacher is having a hard time opening the door because the earthquake tweaked the door frame. Finally the door is un jammed and everyone begins the trek down to the assembly area.

  5. When you get outside you see several homes in the neighborhood that have sustained some damage.

  6. Concerns • You know your mother is home sick with the flu and your father works in downtown LA. Suddenly your mind is filled with terrible scenarios about what may have happened to you mother.

  7. What should you do? • a. Call your mother immediately • b. Cut away from your class while your teacher is distracted with the student who sustained the cut, and run home. • c. Walk down to the assembly with your class.

  8. Calling • If you try to call her, you will probably not be able to make a connection as the phone system will be overloaded with calls such as your’s. Texting is a better option as it relies on a different technology that is less likely to become overwhelmed.

  9. Cut away from your class • If you leave your class, you will create a great deal of stress for everyone who cares for you. • When your teacher takes role at the assembly area and sees that you are not there, he/she will be concerned that something may have happened to you and he/she will have to send people and resources to look for you. • This will take away from other situations that may more importantly merit people and resources.

  10. Walk down to the assembly area • Walking down to the assembly area is the best option, as your parents will be expecting you to be in the safety of the school emergency plan.

  11. Once in the emergency assembly area, how does one become reunited with their loved ones? • First please note only someone on your student emergency release card can pick you up. • The person picking you up must come to the “student request table.” • A release form will be filled out and then a runner will be sent to get you. • You will then go to the release table to leave. (see following chart for visual)

  12. Student Release scenarios • There are several release scenarios to be aware of on the following chart. • Please take a moment to view them.

  13. Do your part and stick to the emergency plan. • Staying with or near your class in the assembly area is important in the release process. • Consider how much time and frustration the faculty and your family will experience if you are absent when you should be present in the assembly area.

  14. Exit to Check out table area here.

  15. Parents will check out students from a table near the opening in the fence Release Table area
