  2. Forensics • The investigation of materials, products, structures to answer questions of interest to a legal system.

  3. Skills Preformed • Keep records and prepare reports detailing findings, investigating methods, and labatory techniques. • Testify in court about investigative methods. • Operate and maintain Labatory equipment.

  4. Duties Preformed • Forensic Engineers perform tests on weapons or substances, such as fiber, hair, and tissue to determine significance to investigation. • May testify as expert witnesses on evidence of crime labatory techniques.

  5. Education Requirements • Get a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering • Major in an engineering sub-specialty field • Take on an internship to gain experience • Contact your State to find out which exams are needed • Complete and pass your State’s examinations • Contact the International Institute of Forensic Engineering Sciences, IIFES • Apply to their program • Contact your State for further requirements to become licensed • Get your license

  6. Responsibilities • Have to determine how accidents occur or how a particular device failed. • They will often inspect evidence drawn from the site of the failure to piece together the sequence of events that led up to it.

  7. Conclusion Questions • How does an engineer contribute to the world of forensics? By helping them find the cause of death and what kind of weaponwas used in the forensic case. • List the forensic technology created by or impacted by engineers? In 19991, the Integrated Ballistics Identification System (IBIS) was invented. It can find the “needle in the haystack”, suggesting possible matches between pairs of spent bullets and cartridge cases, at speeds well beyond human capacity, in order to help forensic experts give detectives more timely information about crimes, guns, and suspects. • How does an engineer work with forensic scientists and forensic technicians?
