Career Path History and perspective(Anecdotal – my INCOSE journey) • Joined in 1994, elected New England Chapter President same year, joined Comm2 at the ‘94 symposium – great fun and gratifying service – haven’t slowed down since! • New England hosted the first INCOSE symposium in 1996 and we began the journey to understanding what it means to be international – we’re still learning… • From Comm2 chair, I ran for Treasurer and held the post for 8 years of growth and change • What do I receive as value? • A durable and responsive network of experts, solid guidance and great friends • A reservoir of resources to help me be a better professional • Gems of technical, process and best practices Enchantment Chapter Meeting

Vision, Mission & Goals • VisionThe world’s authoritative systems engineering professional organization. • MissionAdvance the state of the art and practice of systems engineering in industry, academia, and government by promoting interdisciplinary, scalable approaches to produce technologically appropriate solutions that meet societal needs. Goals • To provide a focal point for dissemination of systems engineering knowledge. • To promote international collaboration in systems engineering practice, education, and research. • To assure the establishment of competitive, scaleable professional standards in the practice of systems engineering. • To improve the professional status of all persons engaged in the practice of systems engineering. • To encourage governmental and industrial support for research and educational programs that will improve the systems engineering process and its practice. Growth • US still has the largest membership, but only US and Western Europe have really been focus growth areas • Largest non-US ‘chapters’ in France, UK, Netherlands, South Africa, Germany, Israel, Australia, Norway • Currently 6600 members • 37% outside US • Higher growth outside North America • Major opportunities in Asia, Latin America, Eastern Europe & Russia Enchantment Chapter Meeting

Get Engaged • At IW2007 closing plenary, reports from 31 working groups and initiatives were reviewed (copy provided to Francis Peter) • This is where the rubber meets the road for technical activities, and where engagement and satisfaction are available in almost any domain or interest area Enchantment Chapter Meeting

Long Range Planning Foundations • Vision 2020, with version 2.0 in external review, represents a carefully vetted description of the systems engineering profession • Advancing the profession delivers value to all stakeholders - individual, corporate & societal • A community vision and the advancement of the profession requires a collaborative approach, internally & externally • Target planning horizon: 2025 INCOSE Planning Workshop

Other Factors • Systems engineering application is rapidly expanding on both geographic and domain dimensions • Achieving our vision requires a foundation in theory, art, practice and cultural context • Agility and value delivery are critical to INCOSE’s mission success INCOSE Planning Workshop

Initial Results • The workshop has generated a variety of options for INCOSE’s future – data is still being transcribed • Options will be rated against vision, mission & goals • Member engagement and value delivered are key discriminators • A substantial degree of alignment exists along these options, with a number of key decisions still open • Many of you will be asked for input in the coming weeks and months INCOSE Planning Workshop
