  1. EXEC11 - Understanding Microsoft Licensing: Getting the Most Out of What We Already Own Ben Corwin Sr. Technical Product Manager – Microsoft Dynamics GP

  2. Agenda • Two Types of Licensing Methodologies: Module Based Licensing (MBL) and Business Ready Licensing (BRL) • Customer Source Familiarization • How do I navigate to CustomerSource? • What Modules Do I Own a License to Use? • When does my Service Plan Expire? • How Many Remaining Support Requests? • How many “Full” vs. “Light” Users are on my account? • What are the capabilities of a “Light-User” within Microsoft Dynamics GP? • Suite Pricing • Materials That May Be of Assistance When Reviewing Your License Agreement with Your Partner • What questions should I be asking my partner?

  3. Licensing Types • Module Based Licensing: • Module Based Licensing (MBL) places value primarily in functionality (modules.) MBL is no longer offered to new customers. Under MBL, customers buy individually priced functionality components (called modules in Microsoft Dynamics GP - all of which work together to build a complete ERP solution that is appropriate for their business needs. MBL is offered in a Standard or Professional edition for Microsoft Dynamics GP. “You purchase User Licenses separately and then your corresponding modules (GL, AP, AR, SOP, IV….etc.)”

  4. Licensing Types • Business Ready Licensing: • Business Ready Licensing places value primarily in users. As a result, Business Ready Licensing streamlines pricing for Microsoft Dynamics solutions. This is accomplished by moving from a pricing model based on hundreds of modules to a new model based primarily on the number of concurrent users who actually use the software. This new model has two simple offerings: Microsoft Dynamics Business Essentials and Microsoft Dynamics Advanced Management. They are based primarily on a common Microsoft Dynamics ERP solution and represent a price reduction for a typical entry-level configuration, eliminating much of the complexity of licensing enterprise resource planning software. “You purchase either a Business Essentials User or Advanced Management User. Depending on your selection, all of the functionality “bundled” in either the Business Essentials SKU or Advanced Management SKU would be unlocked.”

  5. Licensing Types • Business Ready Licensing (a la Carte Purchases): • The “a la-Carte” pricing option allows customers to purchase additional functionality, not included within the traditional Business Essentials SKU or Advanced Management SKU
