  2. Our presentation is about: • Slavery • Abolition of slaves

  3. Introduction • The British empire was the largest empire the world have ever seen. • It brought us back things like tea, rum, coffee, sugar and silk. • The British exchanged British goods. • Britain bought and sold slaves. • The British empire ruled over two fifths of the worlds countries.

  4. SLAVERY In 1518, the first African slaves arrived in the Americas. They came to Hispania from Guinea in West Africa. What began as simply trade in gold, ivory, pepper, and only a few human beings, became a huge trade in human cargo in the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries

  5. Slavery • In Africa slaves could be bought for £5 and sold in the west Indies for £20. • Slaves were also shipped over the Atlantic

  6. The choices of the Slaves Slaves can be bought and sold, and are denied all rights, even to have a say about what happens to their children. Some slaves were not happy!!! At the choices they had. They were like puppets on string being controlled by somebody else.

  7. The Aboltion Of slave trade The abolition of slave trade is about stopping cruelty

  8. Artists drew cartoons to prove that slavery is bad. This is an example of a cartoon.

  9. Trading benefits • We have a multi-cultural society • We are capable of trading different items around the world • We can understand more about other cultures

  11. THE BRITISH EMPIRE WHAT WOULD HAPPEN WITHOUT IT ?

  12. Our summary • Our group thinks that the British trade and empire was good and bad. GOOD We benefited from it by getting luxury goods. BAD We were greedy and selfish because we murdered and stole, precious items.
