  2. Our Goals This Morning – • Become aware of MSDE Financial Literacy initiatives • Identify financial literacy objectives currently in place in your curriculums • Share ideas of how Wicomico County FACS teachers can be part of the near future changes

  3. Financial Literacy is the ability to use knowledge and skills to manage one’s financial resources effectively for lifetime financial security. • By March 2010, MSDE plans to approve a curriculum and a mandate that every county must provide a comprehensive program for grades 3-12 to deliver this content. • Grades 3-5 • Grades 6-8 • Grades 9-12 • Each local system will decide how this is to be delivered • Advisory Groups include teachers, supervisors, business, organizations, etc. • Wisconsin's’ Model Academic Standards for Financial Literacy • Jumpstart Coalition

  4. How Can Wicomico FACS Teachers Invest in Financial Literacy? On Your Post-it: List how you already “uncover” financial literacy and decision making in your courses. Child Dev – calculate cost of caring for a baby

  5. Let’s Discuss the Future • What can or should we do more of? • What would our main goal be? • How would we measure success? • What do we need to be successful? • What are our strengths? • What are our weaknesses? • What opportunities do you see? • What do we think about a new stand alone course for financial literacy? • What could hold us back? • ??
