State of the project Ms. Boehm’s Version, May 2014
Experimental Question • Why did you choose this project? • Possible poster title • Why is your project interesting?
Hypothesis • Include hypothesis, states what you expect to find. • Should be SPECIFIC • Include background research here! • Significance of your potential findings? • Maybe include survey results here?
Experimental Set Up • Outline your procedure • Explain any special techniques and/or use of non-LB agar • BTW: you should be CONSTANTLY updating your procedure in a Google Doc or some other central location
Data Collection • Make some tables, graphs, pictures of your gram stains, pictures of your plates, etc. • You can take picture with a camera through a microscope • Think about what you want to have for your lab report and/or poster • Why are you gram staining? • You want to gram stain colonies that are potentially important to your project (something that is showing up often, something really strange and unexpected). • THINK NOW ABOUT SEQUENCING! • Save plates that have colonies that you want to sequence- should be ones that you have used for gram staining. • We will start this right after State of the Project
Sample Data Table Title???
Issues? • What problems are you having with your project? • Time for feedback from Ms. Boehm and your classmates. • You can earn participation points by participating in the discussion and asking good questions and/or suggesting experimental improvements. • Don’t forget your references slide! You should have a good amount of research done at this point!!!
