MP3 meeting 27/3/2013 Approval minutes Are we going to use Twiki ? Follow-up of the Feb 2013 powering tests General follow-up Documenting the old issues Arjan Verweij, MP3 meeting 26/3/2013
Feb 2013: Document • Copy from sharepoint to new web site: • Minutes and slides of all meetings, incl presentations in TE-TM, LSC, LMC • Other excel files and documentation (EDMS docs, …) • (RQX.R1: heater firing after PC_failure , PNO OK, Q1 and Q2 on board A the same) • RQ5.R1: 2 undetected quenches. PM results + Hot spot calculations + Near miss report from QPS. Arjan Verweij, MP3 meeting 26/3/2013
Analyse & Document • RQX.L2: 3 Quenches. Look into details and compare with the past behaviour. • Quenches at flat-top in the IPQ circuits • Quenches at flat-top in the 600 A circuits (already observed in 2007/8) • Why do the MQM magnets train much more at 4.5 K as compared to 1.9 K? (also observed during reception tests) • RD2.L1 (4.5 K, I_nom=4400 A): Quench at 3884 A during ramp up with very slow developing U_RES. Seems quench in both busbars, triggered by a mechanical movement, since cabled in DFBLA together with RQ6.L1, RQ5.L1 and RQ4.L1. RQ4.L1 goes in SPA, then its bus heats up due to RD2.L1 and then quenches 8 sec after RD2.L1. • RQ6.L8: heater induced quench at 2500 A. Compare PM and scope signals with signals during beam induced quench one week earlier. • Effect of warm cables that are too resistive (for example in IT.L5), causing limit in dI/dt or causing trip of QPS. Arjan Verweij, MP3 meeting 26/3/2013
Analyse, Document & follow-up • RCO.A78B2: Document measurements. Prepare recommendation for inspection + repair or by-pass. • Discussion with BE-ABP on reduction of Inom (mainly e-mails up to now, and LMC soon) • (RQ5.R2: reduced from 4310 to 4100 A, but can be trained to 5850 if needed) • RQTL9.R3B2: reduced from 450 to 425 A • RQTL11.R5B1: reduced from 550 to 450 A • RQTL11.L6B1: reduced from 400 to 350 A • RCBYHS5.R8B1: reduced from 72 to 20 A with 0.67 A/s (40 A with 0.3 A/s). If needed could be replaced by a warm magnet as done in L8. • RCSSX3.L1: reduced from 100 A to 60 A • ROD/F in all sectors: reduced from 600 to 590 A • RSD/F in S81, S12, S45, S56:reduced from 600 to 590 A • All 600 A circuits of ITs which are individually commissioned to 550 A, but are presently limited to 350A due to nested powering. Check if 350 A is sufficient for 7 TeV. If not, a powering restriction has to be implemented in the software so that (IV2+IH2<250000 A2) • RCOSX3.L2, RCOX3.L2 and RCSSX3.L2 Open • RCBYH4.R8B1 ?? RCBYHS4.L5B1 ?? Arjan Verweij, MP3 meeting 26/3/2013
Analyse, Document & follow-up RD2.R8: 4 Q’s in busbar and some from the past, re-alignment by CRYO. Good case to show difference between busbar quench and magnet quench. Make recommendation to check during LS1 the alignment in all links. RD3.L4: Quench behaviour, I_nom reduced from 5850 to 5600 A, recommendation to test in SM18 and prepare spare for the future. About 10 FPA tests with smaller energy extraction resistance on RQTD.A34B1 EDMS 1264959. Prepare document with recommendation for future REE. Similar analysis to be done for other circuits. Arjan Verweij, MP3 meeting 26/3/2013
Follow up (more general, less urgent): • Easy-to-use database with all quench data from the past, and in which we can easily put new quench data in (flag PM file?). Per and Ivan: presentation in a few weeks. • Automatic tests analysis. Tool under development by Kajetan en Co. Zinour and Bernhard are following this. • Library with example plots of typical events (magnet quench, bus quench, current lead quench, FPA, PC trip) for each circuit type (about 30 !!!), and with a PM example from the past (if available).
