☆DISSIMILATION RULES Rules that make sounds less similar are called dissimilation rules. They also have a natural explanation, often from hearer’s rather than the speaker’s perspective.
☆DISSIMILATION RULES • a phonetic feature present in 2 segments is deleted in one of the segments making them more different.many speakers break up the sequence of three fricatives with a stop, and deletion of aspiration in [p, t, k] after fricative [s]
☆DISSIMILATION • Fricative dissimilation- This rule applies to sequences /fθ/and /sθ/, changing them to [ft] and[st]. For example: Fifth—pronounce as “fift” Sixth —pronounce as ”sikst”
