Learning Objectives • Today we are learning to: • Use Game Maker software – user interface • Understand and create parts of a • computer game – sprites, sounds & objects
Game Maker – User Interface This is the Game Maker UI A user interface allows the user to interact with a computer program. We will use the Game Maker UI to create computer games.
Changing to simple mode We need to work in Simple Mode so make sure you uncheck the Advanced Mode Setting under the file menu Right Wrong
Games are made of Resources Game resources that you create can be seen on the left of the Game Maker User Interface
What are sprites? Pac Man 2010 1980’s SoNIC Mario Sprites are images used in computer games
Create a Sprite The Resources menu is where we add stuff to our games
Sprite Properties Box Every Item has a Properties box
Let’s get started • Open game maker software • Switch to simple mode if you need to • Create the Clown and Wall sprites using the resources in the shared area:S:\ICT\My Teacher\Mr Crossan\Year 7\Catch the Clown\Resources
Adding sounds • We need to add sounds to our game the same way as we added the sprite • We only add sounds as game resources for now • Later we will learn how to control when sounds are played in our game
Creating Objects • Sprites are on images. To make stuff move in our game we need to create objects • We add control to our objects to create our game • We need to objects – a wall that doesn’t move and the clown that does move.
