  1. Seam Finishes EQ: How and when do you use different seam finishes?

  2. EQ: How and when do you use different seam finishes? • A seam finish is any method of sewing or trimming that prevents seam edges from raveling. • A seam finish is chosen depending upon the type of fabric and end use of the finished item.

  3. EQ: How and when do you use different seam finishes? • Types of Seam Finishes • Zig-zag • Fast and easy • Use for loosely woven, medium to heavy weight fabrics, i.e. upholstery or corduroy

  4. EQ: How and when do you use different seam finishes? • Pinked finish • Doesn’t prevent raveling entirely • Use for firmly/tightly woven fabric, not suitable for satin and silky fabrics. • Must run a reinforcing stitch between the seam and the pinked edge.

  5. EQ: How and when do you use different seam finishes? • Hemmed finishes • Also called Clean or Turned & Stitched • Because it is a bulky finish, use on lightweight to medium weight fabrics. • Appropriate for unlined garments.

  6. EQ: How and when do you use different seam finishes? • Serged finish • Done on a serger. • Works well for almost any fabric or application, i.e. unlined garments or window treatments
