  2. Something about Ireland Ireland is a part of Great Britain. It isthe third – largest island in Europe and the twentieth - largest island in the world. Nowadays about six million peoplelive in Ireland. The area of Ireland is about 84 000 square km. The patron of Ireland is St. Patrick and the emblem is a shamrock.

  3. Irish flag • The national flag of Ireland is a vertical tricolour of green, white, and orange. Officially the flag has no meaning in the Irish Constitution, however a common interpretation is that the green represents Roman Catholicism while the orange represents Protestantism. The white in the centre signifies a lasting truce between the Green and the Orange.

  4. St. Patrick’s Day The most popular festival in Ireland isSt. Patrick’s Day. It is celebrate every year on the 17th of March. This day everybody wears green clothes.

  5. Great Famine There was a big famine in Ireland in 1845-1849. A lot of Irish people were emigrating to other countries in those times. About20–25% of Irish population escapedthe country.
