  3. Problem Background In Colorado • 13,903 students are enrolled in an online program – 87% living outside their home district • This is a gain of 12.5% in online students from 2008 to 2009 In Thompson • 357 students are home schooled and 1326 students attend in another district • All enrolled students don’t have online or hybrid access

  4. Proposed Solution • Offer a robust online program through Thompson School District • Create a revenue stream rather than expense line • Meet compliance with CDE for PPOR and Accreditation Competition and Demand

  5. Guiding Questions • How do we create a robust virtual learning environment? • How do we set ourselves apart as the most relevant, rigorous, engaging option? • How do we know it is effectively producing 21st Century learners/supporting 21st century learning? • How do we make this a partnership and not competition with our current schools?

  6. Assumptions • Online learning options are necessary to remain a competitive school district • Thompson Online should be designed to meet multiple student group needs, not focusing on one sub-population, using differentiated instructional practices available through an online format

  7. Potential Results • Increase retention and satisfaction of students and parents • Recapture funding loss and maintain a positive money flow • Close the achievement gap • Provide all students with online 21st century experiences
