Battle of the Thames • USA victory - put an end to the British threat to the Northwest • Tecumseh died in the battle fighting for the British
Fort McHenry at Baltimore The British came to invade the fort. The significance of this so called "battle" was that an inspired man named Francis Scott Key wrote a poem that eventually became the "Star-Spangled Banner".
Treaty of Ghent • Peace Agreement between USA & England • Ended the War of 1812 • December 24, 1814
Battle of New Orleans – Jan. 1815 • Major General Andrew Jackson leading the Americans against the British intent on taking control of New Orleans. • Final battle of the war – War already ended/ Treaty of Ghent December 1814, but the news did not reach until after the battle was over. • Andrew Jackson and his army kept the British from seizing New Orleans for more than half a month. • Andrew Jackson – war hero. Later will become 7th President
Legacy of the War - Effects • No clear winner : status quo / stays the same as before the war (antebellum) • American Patriotism ( love & pride for country) • Weakened Native American resistance • Growth of American manufacturing ( US forced to produce goods that were imported before)
