IRONY • Irony- literary techniques that convey difference between appearance and reality. • Verbal irony- words are used to convey that opposite of what is said. • Dramatic irony- when the reader knows something that character doesn’t • Situational irony- events occur that directly contradict that expectations of the characters, readers, or audience

Terms • Mood- feeling created in a reader by literary work or passage • Foreshadowing- clues that suggest events that have yet to occur (creates suspense) • Suspense- feeling of curiosity about the outcome of events in a literary work. Writers create suspense by raising questions in the mind of readers
