  10. CIVICUS Alliance The CIVICUS alliance is made up of: • Organisations from across the spectrum of civil society • Individual civil society activists • Representatives from over 100 countries • Donors and other supporters committed to strengthening civil society www.civicus.org

  11. Owned by members • Membership elects the Board of Directors for 3-year terms, who report back regularly • Board appoints and oversees the Secretary General • Secretary General appoints and manages the secretariat, currently in Johannesburg www.civicus.org

  15. Protecting the rights of civil society • Promote the existence of an adequate space for civil society to operate freely • Protect civil society organisations (CSOs) and citizen action from oppression and marginalisation • provide solidarity to civil society when under threat www.civicus.org

Strengthening good practice • Support initiatives to maintain and improve the accountability, transparency and legitimacy of CSOs • encourage and support CSOs to comply with the highest standards of conduct in all aspects of their work • increase awareness of these issues, provide resources, and share good practices www.civicus.org

  22. UN Representation CIVICUS has representation at the United Nations in both Geneva and New York Objective: Enhance the space and impact of civil society in decision making processes.
