  1. Tool Library Services by Sandvik Coromant Bengt Olsson Project Manager - Product Information SandvikCoromant bengt.olsson@sandvik.com

  2. Smart DecisionsBased on access to relevant information Resources: Conditions:

  3. Smart DecisionsInfluenced by Cutting Tool Information • CAD/CAM • choice of operations, machines, cutting tools • creation of efficient tool paths • Resource Management • tool planning, efficient inventory and service of items in tool crib • selection and creation of tool assemblies • Simulation • verification of tool paths • selection of cutting data • CNC Machining • optimization of process

  4. Access to Cutting Tool Information CAM Supplier Tool Supplier End User ISO13399 Tool Library Services

  5. Cutting Tool Information StandardISO13399 – For Digital Communication We all share the same definition of a parameter Definition: ”Maximum engagement of the cutting edge or edges with the workpiece measured perpendicular to the feed motion.” 15 mm 5

  6. Cutting Tool Information StandardISO13399 – What Can Be Communicated? Tool item information Classification Parameter values Tool assembly Assembly instructions for tool room Tool information used by CAM/CNC References to external documents 3D model of single tool or complete tool assembly Multi-function ”Multiple tools” on one body Nominal and physical tool Nominal tool information to CAM and tool room Physical tool information between tool room and CNC mill turn turn 6

  7. Cutting Tool Information StandardISO13399 – Basics Information Model from STEP (ISO10303-214) Consists of selected parts from “AP214” (automotive) Powerful model to describe a cutting tool. E.g. A tool assembly may include its components as well as the resulting 3D model. Cutting Tool Vocabulary in P-Lib dictionary file (ISO13584) Allows for quicker updates to meet requirements from the industry File Format from STEP (ISO10303-21) Same proven file format, “part21”, which is used for 3D models 7

  9. Tool Library Services – My Assemblies

  10. Does A Tool Meet The Requirements? Tool 1 (requested) Tool 1a (created) -Ask The Tool! X Too Short! Tool 1b (created) ”Usable length maximum” > 42 mm OK! 10

  11. Benefitswith Tool Library Services by Sandvik Coromant • Access to updated cutting tool catalogs • Updated via ISO13399 standard interface • Simple import of ”Catalog tool items” to ”My tool items” • Drag/drop or copy/paste • Quick creation of ”My tool assemblies” • Includes automatically generated 3D/2D for simulation as well as assembly instructions for the tool room • Simulation, verification and planning possible with real tool data • Contributes to a sustainable machining environment
