  3. What are excavations that require a PE? These are excavations that are 20 feet deep or greater.

  4. What are hole covers? These are protective systems that must be marked and secured, to protect employees from falling.

  5. What is falling object protection? Screening installed from the toeboard to the toprail..

  6. What is the swing radius? This is the area that must be barricaded around the crane.

  7. What is the means of egress from an excavation? This must be within 25 feet of lateral travel.

  8. What are lanyards and anchorage points? These protective systems must be capable of supporting a 5000# load.

  9. Who is the competent person? This is the person that must supervise erection, modification and dismantling of scaffolds.

  10. What is a fire extinguisher? Cranes must have one of these in the cab rated at 5BC.

  11. What are utilities located underground? These must be removed or supported.

  12. What is the top rail of a guardrail system? This is installed at 42 inches, give or take three, and capable of supporting 200#.

  13. What is four times the maximum intended load? Scaffolds must be capable of supporting their own weight and this.

  14. What is the minimum clearance from energized lines? This distance must be no more than ten feet.

  15. Who is the competent person? The person with the knowledge and the authority to promptly correct hazards.

  16. What is a toeboard? Although it is required to be 4 inches wide, 3 ½ will do.

  17. What are mud sills? These must be used to support scaffolds set on soil or other unstable foundations.

  18. What are outriggers? When these are not fully extended they can cause cranes to tip over.

  19. What are excavations made in type C soil? These are excavations that must be sloped at a 1 ½ to 1 angle.

  20. What is a wire rope guardrail system? The ends of this system should be “eye to eye” not spliced.

  21. What are plastering and lathing operations? This type of work allows 18” between the platform and the face of work.

  22. What is an anti-two-blocking device? This is the device that deactivates hoisting action.
