  3. School administration’s involvement: • “The principal is very involved—she walks through the hallways and comes into your classroom if she hears something interesting. She’s interested in the curriculum you’re running, and what’s going on in your classroom. The superintendent is also quite involved.” -6th grade English teacher

  4. Subcultures within the school: • Social Cliques made by economic boundaries • Rich Kids/Trailer Park Kids • Others:Jocks,Outsiders (non-social students)

  5. Role of Academics: GO NERDS! No “Nerd clique” It’s cool to be smart at MSJH!

Role of Athletics: BIG • Sports are encouraged and widely attended, 2 hrs practice, 3 days a week for football sometimes gets in the way of class work.Many kids are involved, and are very serious about what they’re involved in. Often, there are students involved with multiple sports along with band and chorus too

  8. Physical Description of School: • Recently completed a $2.2 million building addition. This construction included several changes: the addition of ten classrooms (to help hold the 630 students), a performance stage, and a gymnasium; expanded hallway, parking, cafeteria, and physical education locker facilities; and the remodeling of numerous other areas. • Has 2 computer labs • Plans for an additional mini-lab for student Internet access as well as a cd-rom tower that will enable the student body to become more technology literate.
