Latitude and Longitude. And stuff like that…. Some words for you to know…. Latitude: Imaginary lines on the globe that run east and west, separating the north from the south. See? They are LATitude lines… like a ladder !. Some words for you to know….

  2. Some words for you to know… • Latitude: Imaginary lines on the globe that run east and west, separating the north from the south. See? They are LATitude lines… like a ladder!

  3. Some words for you to know… • Longitude: Imaginary lines on the globe that run north and south and separate east from west. See? They’re LONGitude lines and they’re LONG!

  4. Lines of latitude are called parallels (that would make sense because they run parallel to one another!) Each parallel is parallel to the equator, which is the middle of the globe, or 0 degrees latitude

  5. Lines of longitude are called meridians. (I have no idea why they are called meridians. Do you?) Meridians are lines that run from pole to pole. The Prime Meridian is at 0 degrees longitude. From there, the meridians increase in number to the east and to the west until they meet at 180 degrees longitude (on the opposite side of the prime meridian)

  7. Man made v. Scientific Latitude and Longitude: One of these two measurements is purely based on science. The other was created by man to help make stuff a little easier. Which is which?

  8. Time Zones • Do we use latitude or longitude for time zones? • GMT = Greenwich Mean Time (the Prime Meridian goes through Greenwich, England. Greenwich is pronounced Gren-itch. It does not rhyme with sandwich) • International Date Line – The line of longitude (about 180 degrees) where the new day starts. They are the first people to shout Happy New Year!
