  2. About this course • We will study how to speak English on a maritime VHF radio • Why? • Because next semester you will be on a training ship or commercial ship. • So, you need to know how to speak on a radio.

  4. Where to get our book • Steps for the class captain: • Go to the copy shop • Tell ajeossi“SMITH BOOK 2” • Tell him how many copies • He’ll print them • Go back, pick up the books and pay • Bring books to next class and distribute to classmates • Each book should be less than 5,000 won.

  5. About Grades • You must have 650 or higher on TOEIC to pass • Attending and staying awake: 15% • NOTE: 5 or more absences is an automatic F • Quizzes: 35% • Final Exam: 50%

  6. About grades • I must grade according to the KMU grading curve • A/A+ = 35% maximum • B/B+ = 35% + unused A/A+ • A/A+/B/B+ = 70% maximum • C/C+/D/D+/F = 30% minimum.

  7. About Grades • I rarely give D. If you’re that bad, I give you F because you’ll take the class again anyway. • I mix all 70433 sections together to get the grading curve • DON’T TELL OTHER SECTIONS ABOUT THE QUIZZES AND THE FINAL OR ELSE THEY WILL SCORE HIGHER THAN YOUR SECTION!!!
