COS Funding Alert • Delivers all new relevant funding information to you • Timely – hundreds of opportunities are added and updated in COS Funding Opportunities each week. • Automated – relevant new and updated records are e-mailed to your desktop each week. • Customized – we set an introductory search for you; you can refine that search and add up to 19 additional searches. • Convenient – alerts are easy to use and results come in a single weekly e-mail; you can also download results in your COS Workbench.

  5. How COS Funding Alert Works • Introductory Search • Using information in your Expertise profile, COS creates an introductory search for you to match your COS keywords, location, and eligibility. E-mail results arrive each week. • You can • Modify the Introductory Search and add up to 19 additional searches • View and download each week’s results from your COS Workbench • Turn e-mail delivery on and off

  6. COS Funding Alert matches the mailing address and COS Keywords in your Expertise profile to new and updated opportunities on a weekly basis, creating your introductory COS Funding Alert search.

  7. The results of your Funding Alert search(es) are returned in a single e-mail each week.

  9. Choose your search criteria on any COS Funding Opportunities search interface. Improvements to the COS Funding Alert system make it easier than ever to create a new search. When you are satisfied with your search criteria, click “Do the search.”

  10. If you would like to receive Funding Alert e-mails matching your search criteria, click the “Save Search” link at the top of the page.

  11. You will be prompted to log in to your COS Workbench.

  12. You will be asked to choose a name for your search. You will next specify if you would like to receive e-mail about this alert. When you are satisfied click “Save This Search.” If your search contained COS Keywords, you will be able to choose if those keywords appear in your COS Expertise profile.

  13. Tip: You can save searches from any results list from any COS Funding Opportunities search interface. You can see that the “Grad Student MIS” search has been added to your life of saved Funding Searches.

  14. You can also add a search directly from your COS Workbench by clicking “Add a Search.”

  15. You will be taken to the same search form that you would see if you selected “Main Search” from the COS Funding Opportunities Home page.

  16. Select your criteria, and do your search. This search is looking for all travel opportunities for Undergraduate Students that are US Citizens sponsored by Private Foundations.

  17. Save your search by clicking “Save Search” at the top of the results list page.

  19. To edit an existing search, click the “Edit” link to the right of the search name that you wish to edit.

  20. You will see a COS Funding Opportunities search form pre-populated with the search criteria that you selected in your initial search.

  21. From this search form, update your search criteria. In this search, the Funding Types of Research, Program or Curriculum Development or Provision and Training or Scholarship or Fellowship were added to the existing search for opportunities for Graduate Students that are United States citizens with the COS Keyword of Engineering. After choosing new search criteria, click “Do the Search.”

  22. At the top of the screen in italics you can see your updated query, and you can peruse your new results list. Reminder: You are seeing your search criteria run against the entire FundingOpportunities database to give you an idea of what kind of search results you can expect to see. Your Funding Alert e-mail will contain results of these search criteria that have been run against only new or updated Funding Opportunities in the database for the past week. If these search results are satisfactory, click ‘Save Search’

  23. Save your search when satisfied. You will be asked to re-verify the search name, whether you’d like to receive e-mail about this alert, and that you’d like any COS keywords to be displayed in your Expertise profile.

  24. Your search has been updated on your COS Workbench.

  26. Run a search as you would from any COS search interface. COS Record Track and Alert You can now track and receive e-mail alerts about individual COS Funding Opportunities.

  27. Click on the individual funding opportunity that is of interest to you.

  28. If you would like to save this opportunity and receive e-mail alerts when it is updated, click ‘Track this record on my Workbench.’

  29. You will be prompted for your COS Workbench username and password.

  30. You will then be asked if you would like to receive an e-mail when new information is available about this opportunity. Click ‘Save This Search.’

  31. You can also choose to receive e-mail updates about some or all of your tracked opportunities. You will receive an e-mail any time an opportunity is updated. You can track up to 100 opportunities. Whenever the opportunity is updated you will see the “Recently Updated” message on your Workbench. The Kimmel Scholar Award has been added to your list of tracked opportunities.

  33. Edit your options by clicking the “Options” link on your COS Workbench.

  34. Update your e-mail address Control your preferred e-mail format Choose the display fields you wish to see in your Funding Alert e-mail Specify your citizenship From this page you can manage different aspects of your COS Funding Alert account and create some demographic defaults for new searches.

  35. Select where you would like to do your research. Specify if you’re a PhD, M.D, or other professional, or if you work at an organization considered to be academic, Government or Non-Profit.

  36. Choose which of your COS Keywords are displayed in your Expertise profile, or delete a keyword entirely. Manage your Keywords.

  38. If you delete or misplace your COS Funding Alert e-mail, you can always view it online through your COS Workbench. Click the hyperlinked number of new results for the past week to see your new Funding Alert results.

  39. These are the two opportunities that were in the saved “Medical Technology” search for the past week. Click on the hyperlinked grant title to see the full COS Funding Opportunities record.

  40. This is the full COS Funding Opportunities record returned from your COS Funding Alert.

  41. Click “Run” directly to the right of your search name. You can also run your Funding Alert search against the entire Funding Opportunities database. You will see every opportunity that matches your search criteria, not just the results that were added or updated in the past week.

  42. You can now see all 70 funding records that contain the word “Biochemistry” and are for Graduate or Undergraduate Students.

  43. Simply check the alert in the “Weekly Email” column if you would like to be notified about it, or uncheck the check box if you no longer wish for that search to be included in your COS Funding Alert e-mail. You can choose which COS Funding Alert searches you would like to be alerted about with a weekly e-mail.

  44. Now my “Anthro Grad Students” search will be included in my weekly COS Funding Alert e-mail.

  45. You can view several weeks’ worth of COS Funding Alert archives from your COS Workbench. Click “Archives” to proceed.

  46. Click on the week for which you want to see your COS Funding Alert archives.

  47. Next, click on the hyperlinked search title to see your archived results.

  48. You can now see the 8 results from my “Civil Engineering” search for the week of June 25. Click on the hyperlinked grant title to see the full record.

  49. …I would have seen the message that this opportunity is no longer available. This message means that the deadline has passed for this particular funding opportunity. Note: If I had selected my “Grad Students Music” search…
