Vet’s opinion Brick’s injuries were as a result of a recent confrontation with a badger.
Arrest and Interview • Denied owning the dog. • Denied having access to the yard. • Denied having any knowledge of the dog or its injuries. • Inspector Gent was wrong about his identification of the dog.
Charged with causing unnecessary suffering to the Patterdale Terrier. • Convicted following a trial at Liverpool City Mags. Ct. • 3 months imprisonment • Banned from keeping animals for 3 years.

Charges • 1 x Trespass in pursuit of game (Poulton Hall, Merseyside). • 1 x Possession of Offensive Weapon (Birkenhead, Merseyside). • 4 x Wilfully injuring a badger (Caerwys). • 4 x Cruelly ill-treating a badger (Caerwys). • Dogs being encouraged.
Defence attempted to have case dismissed, claiming that Wirral Magistrates did not have jurisdiction for offences that occurred in North Wales.This submission was dismissed.
Result • Pleaded guilty to all offences. • 3 Months imprisonment. • Banned from keeping dogs for 2 years.
