  1. Janet Murray earned a Ph. D. in English Literature from Harvard and is well known for her book “Hamlet on the Holodeck: The Future of Narrative in Cyberspace.” She was a Senior Research Scientist in the Center for Educational Computing Initiatives at MIT where she taught humanities and led advanced interactive design projects since 1971. More recently from 2000 – 2010 she was a professor at the Georgia Institute of Technology where she was the director of graduate studies in the School of Literature, Communication, and Culture. Dr. Janet H. Murray

  2. Janet Murray is a philosopher. She wrote Hamlet on the Holodeck in 1997 which is a roadmap to the emerging broadband art, information, and entertainment medium. In the chapter Lord Burleigh’s Kiss she discusses cyber relationships, interactive media, and how new technology effects morality. And in the chapter Harbinggers of the Holodeck she talks about the specific potential of the story-telling capacities of cyberspace.

  3. Cyberspace is a growing universe of interlinked web pages and web apps, teeming with videos, photos, and interactive content.

  4. As Janet Murray philosophizes, teaches, and explains digital media some are still asking, what is digital media? • Digital media as "the creative convergence of digital arts, science, technology and business for human expression, communication, social interaction and education".

  5. Dr. Murry earned a Ph.D in Literature from Harvard. She was very interested in specifically Victoria Gothic writing. This style focused on science fiction and romance. • Interestingly that era of writing around the 1880s saw the revival of the Gothic as a powerful literary form. It explored contemporary fears like ethical degeneration and questioned the social structures of the time. And isn’t that what we are exploring with multimedia being our dominant entertainment source right now?

  6. When participating in a holonovel the characters chose environments that were detailed and intricate. Not at all the sleek, modern environment that have little texture and detail like that of an Apple design. It seems that what we wish for is detail and depth.
