  1. Project Kick-off Meeting INTHEAT Professor Robin Smith Process Integration Limited Manchester 17 December 2010

  2. History of the Project • Background research and collaboration: EPSRC project (UK) in heat transfer intensification (2009 – 2011) • Initiated by UNIMAN, PIL and CALGAVIN mid 2009 • PIL assumed coordinating role (mid 2009) • Submitted to FP7-SME-2010-1 (Dec 2009) • Invitation to commence contract negotiations (March 2010) • Negotiations completed end September 2010 • Project commenced 1 December 2010

  3. Project Overview Intensified Heat Transfer Technologiesfor Enhanced Heat Recovery - INTHEAT Contract number: 262205 Starting date: 1 December 2010 Duration: 24 months

  4. Project Objectives • Enhancing our understanding of heat exchange under fouling • Technical innovation for heat transfer intensification for heat recovery • Proposing new materials of improved economic and environmental performance as heat transfer media (with focus on advanced heat exchanger with polymer materials • Combining enhanced heat transfer innovative design with process integration toachieve the synergy of novel technologies • Demonstration of applicability and economic-environmental benefit of novel heat-transfer enhancement techniques and the new design methods proposed • Effective technology transfer to the wide range academic and industrial communities

  5. Partners • Process Integration Limited (PIL), UK • Cal Gavin Limited (CALGAVIN), UK • Akstionernoe Obshchestvo ‘Sodrugestvo-T’ (SODRU), Ukraine • Makatec Apparate GmbH (MAKATEC), Germany • Oikos, svetovanje za razvoj, d.o.o. (OIKOS), Slovenia • The University of Manchester (UNIMAN), UK • University of Bath (UNIBATH), UK • Paderborn University (UPB), Germany • University of Pannonia (UNIPAN), Hungary • EMbaffle B.V. (EMBAFFLE), The Netherlands

  6. Work Package Structure Management WP 7 Management RTD WP 1 Analysis of intensified heat transfer under fouling WP 2 Combined tube-side and shell-side heat exchanger enhancement WP 3 Heat Exchangers made of Plastic Materials WP 4 Design, retrofit and control of intensified heat recovery networks Demonstration Exploitation WP 5 Putting into practice WP 6 Technology transfer

  7. Contract specific terms • Duration of the project is 24 months • Commencement date: 1 December 2010 • Maximum financial contribution by EC: EUR 1,155,000 • Pre-financing at the level of EUR 693,000 (minus Guarantee Fund EUR 57,750) • Reporting periods: • P1 from month 1 to month 9 • P2 from month 10 to the last month of the project

  8. Contract specific terms • Applicable law: terms of GA, EC and EU acts related to FP7, Financial Regulation application to the general budget and other EC and EU law, and on subsidiary basis, the law of Belgium • Communication with EC through the coordinator

  9. Contract specific terms

  10. Milestones

  11. Milestones

  12. Project Deliverables • 19 deliverables of them 7 confidential, 12 public • Deliverables shall be submitted to EU within 45 days following the end of the planned date • The coordinator will distribute the template for the project deliverables in January • Lead participant:Coordinates the preparation of the Deliverables, ensures contribution from partners is prepared on time, ensures quality of Deliverable

  13. Project Deliverables Need to be submitted using the electronic system

  14. Financial Guidelines • Each SME (Contractor) should sign a sub-contracting agreement with RTD Partners (Sub-Contractors) who carry out the research work for them. • The Coordinator will circulate draft sub-contracting agreement in next few days.

  15. Financial Guidelines Suggested distribution of sub-contracting payments in line with the DoW’s Tables A3 and B3 1,050,000

  16. Financial Guidelines Will be circulated among Partners

  17. Financial Guidelines • The pre-finance has been sent to the Coordinator, but due to technical issues had to be sent back to REA. The pre-finance is due to arrive in January-February. • Pre-finance has been EUR 635,250 which is 635,250 / 1155000 = 0.55 of the overall requested EU contribution. Hence the prepayment will be distributed proportionally to the total EU contribution to each partner

  18. Financial Guidelines Estimated prefinance distribution

  19. Project PM efforts

  20. Decision Making Mechanism European Commission - Technical Officer Technical Management (WP 7) Exploitation and Dissemination Management (WP 7) Coordinator (WP 7) Steering Committee – decision making body (All Consortium Members) Workpackage Management (WP Committees / WP Leaders)

  21. Consortium Agreement An updated version of the Consortium Agreementwill be circulated at this meeting Amendments: in Exclusions section Please check carefully before we send the updated version to REA!

  22. Future Meetings Planning • June 2011 – your suggestions? • Mid-term review meeting to be done after Month 11 (December 2011) – Brussels • June 2012 – your suggestions? • November 2012 – your suggestions?
